Svetlana Kaplanskaya is a native of Moscow, Russia. Having graduated from the Moscow State Conservatory Piano and Musicology divisions, Svetlana taught at the Moscow State Institute of Culture and Arts and the Gnessin Academy of Music.
A resident of Rockville, Maryland since 1993, Svetlana has performed regularly in the Washington DC area as a soloist and chamber music player. Dr. Kaplanskaya has been a member of the Music Teachers' National Association (MTNA) and the Washington Music Teachers' Association (WMTA-DC) since 1993. Among Svetlana's students are a number of successful performers and professional musicians. Svetlana's students perform in a mandatory studio recital twice every year and take part in musical events, festivals, and competitions.
At the core of Svetlana's philosophy is the belief that music education forms a vital element of one's upbringing and cultural awareness. The method of instruction is systematic and geared toward professionalism.
